Zach Miller Leg Injury Not Only Threatens His Career, But His Life

The Chicago Bears versus the New Orleans Saints yesterday was a hard-fought game, but thats not whats concerning NFL fans today.  Right now, were all concerned about the well-being of Chicago tight end Zach Miller,  who suffered a catastrophic leg injury.

The diagnosis of a severely dislocated knee, as gruesome and painful as that sounds, does not fully do it justice.  Indeed, simply categorizing it as a leg injury belies the fact that it was indeed life-threatening.  Dr. David Chao, a former NFL team doctor, believes Millers knee was so dislocated that it may have torn arteries in his leg.

Miller stayed at a New Orleans area hospital last night. Chao also noted early action would help save the leg. Outside of the initial reports this morning there has not been much more information made available.

Assuming the doctors were able to take action early on the situation Chao believes the leg could be saved, but he also noted there are many more obstacles for Miller to overcome moving forward.

The Bears released a statement saying, ” During our game at the New Orleans Saints yesterday, TE Zach Miller sustained a serious injury to his left knee and immediate evaluation from our medical team on site rushed him to nearby University Medical Center New Orleans (UMC) for urgent vascular surgery to repair a torn popliteal artery. Successful surgery was performed immediately on Sunday by the UMC vascular surgeons to stabilize his injury. Zach remains at UMC, along with Bears medical personnel, where he will stay under further evaluation. We are thinking of Zach and his family and support from our entire organization goes out to them.
