‘When They See Us’ Jharrel Jerome Earns First Emmy Nomination

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jharrel Jerome has earned his first Emmy nomination for Lead Actor in a limited series, for his performance as Korey Wise in Ava DuVernay’s Netflix series, ‘When They See Us’.

“I’m going crazy over here. I feel like I’m on a whole other planet right now,” Jerome told The Hollywood Reporter Tuesday morning. “The first time I met Korey, he took off the chain around his neck and put it on my neck and said, ‘You’re the king now. You’re Korey Wise’”.

‘When They See Us’ is a four-part series that chronicles the journey of five boys Wise, Kevin Richardson, Antron McCray, Yusef Salaam, and Raymond Santana Jr.— known as the Central Park Five—who were wrongfully accused of beating and raping a jogger in Central Park. The boys spent six to 13 years in prison. They were later exonerated after a serial rapist confessed to the crime.

The series also picked up 16 Emmy nominations, including for limited series, lead actress in a limited series for Niecy Nash and Aunjanue Ellis and recognition in the supporting categories for Marsha Stephanie Blake, Vera Farmiga, Asante Blackk, John Leguizamo and Michael K. Williams.
