Warren Sapp Thinks The Bucs Defensive Scheme Is Ass Backwards

The 0-7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been a dumpster dive this season. They stink and the criticism from fans and former players are flowing. Hall of Famer Warren Sapp is one of those outspoken opponents of this current Bucs situation and the philosophy of HC Greg Schiano's talent-laden defense. Tampa Bay has top-tier players on D, but are the 17-ranked defense in the NFL

From Pro Football Talk :

“He’s not getting the opportunities,” Sapp said of McCoy. “That’s what it is. Am I the only one who’s watching tape here? I’m trying to figure out the plan that you have here.”

Sapp said he watched the Bucs’ loss to the Cardinals and grew frustrated when he saw (Pro Bowl DT Gerald) McCoy beat the guard on one side of the line on back-to-back plays, only to be moved to the other side of the line on the next play.

“I was screaming at the television set – ‘Get back over there,’” Sapp said. “You just beat this guy twice and almost had a sack both times, so now come back for the third down and get us off the field. But the defense says he has to be on that side. And the defense says he has to be on that side because of the threat of a draw. I’m sorry. I just don’t get it sometimes. I’m trying to figure out the plan that you have here.”

High-priced cornerback Darrelle Revis has already railed against the Bucs for wasting his man coverage abilities in a zone coverage capacity. This is just another sure sign that Schiano’s days are numbered with the Bucs organization.
