They say all good things must come to an end. According to reports, German-Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen has hired a divorce attorney amid marital trouble with Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback and seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady. The two were married in 2009.
The source of the trouble is tied to Brady’s decision to return to the NFL earlier this year after a 40-day retirement. The New York Post reports on the turmoil:
“I never actually thought this argument would be the end of them, but it looks like it is,” one source in the know tells Page Six. “I don’t think there will be any coming back now. They both have lawyers and are looking at what a split will entail, who gets what and what the finances will be.”
Bündchen and Brady share two children — son Benjamin Rein, 12, and 9-year-old daughter Vivian Lake, along with Brady’s son John Edward, 15, with ex Bridget Moynahan, whom he dumped while she was pregnant to get with Bündchen.
As early as a few weeks ago Brady and Bündchen were trying to work things out. Brady was working to spend more time at home with the kids. But playing full-time NFL football doesn’t allow for full-time dad duties. He even left training camp for two weeks to spend time with his family.
The final straw is reported to be when Bündchen left the family compound in Florida in August after a fight with Brady. Since she returned in September the couple have been living apart.
If Brady did agree to retire and spend more time at home being a family man you can understand why Bündchen is upset. She’s been the primary childrearing parent their entire marriage. As the kids get older she probably wants Brady to be more a part of the parenting.
“As with many marriages, it’s not just one thing. Gisele has made it clear that she worried about Tom playing football and that they had had many talks about it,” a source said. “But they have had a series of blowups over the past few years, and this time it looks like there’s no going back.”
