The Memphis Grizzlies Are Playing Musical Coaching Chairs

The Memphsi Grizzlies went from an organization with a sharp coaching staff and a stable front office to an irresolute group of neophytes flying by the seat of their pants and spiraling towards a rocky future.

One year after Jason Levien decided to cut the cord with Lionel Hollins and promote his assistant Dave Joerger to the head coaching seat for a Western Conference finalist.

After a rocky start, Joerger’s Grizzlies finished the season strong and took Oklahoma City to the brink before Zach Randolph’s suspension halted their momentum.

Days after Memphis’ front office shakeup, the Grizzlies are in the process of letting Joerger walk to Minnesota.

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, owner Robert Pera wanted to fire Joerger earlier in the season and while Joerger is already in the process of interviewing with the Timberwolves, Memphis would have to broker a deal with Minnesota involving an exchange of draft picks and/or cash in exchange to get Joerger out of his contract.

It’s not clear why Pera is so set on axing another head coach after another 50-win season, but Pera is reportedly set on cleaning house, adding new carpet, drapes and evicting all of his old tenants.
