For the first time since 2001, the New York Knicks went on the road in the playoffs and left with a victory in hand. As usual, Boston had no answer for Raymond Felton and Carmelo Anthony on the offensive end. Meanwhile, the Knicks had the cheat sheet, holding the Boston Celtics below 80 for the third consecutive game.
After beating Boston in Game 3, the Knicks are not only a threat to sweep the Celtics out of the playoffs, but they may also be forcing Danny Ainge to pull the dustpan out the pantry and dump the Celtics aging core. They've looked like garbage all series. It's not for a lack of trying. Celtics fans may want to offer free hard hats at the door next season, because the rebuilding phase is nearly upon them. Pierce has a player option on his contract and he's been very open about his intentions not to exercise it. If he doesn't, Ainge may finally light the fuse on a Pierce trade in the offseason. Kevin Garnett retirement rumors have been floating all season like the arc on a J.R. Smith trey.
Speaking of J.R., the Knicks only concern should be the fate of Smith, who was ejected with a flagrant 2 after purposely swinging his elbow up at Jason Terry's chinz, who had to be restrained after picking himself up off the floor.
