Target Opts Out of Selling Beyonce’s Self-Titled Set

It appears as though Target doesn't like money. Or they like to hate. Because their stance on selling Beyoncé’s new self-titled release is indeed a head-scratcher. The retailer announced it will not be selling B's new offering, which is already one of the fastest selling albums of all time.

"At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections," Target spokesperson Erica Julkowski told Billboard. "While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyonce in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyoncé’s new self-titled album Beyonce."

The album was released on Friday, Dec. 13 exclusively via iTunes with no promotion, and with no single being released. At this point, iTunes continues to be the exclusive seller of the set through Dec. 20, which is when it will be made available at off-line retailers in CD form. It is slated to debut on the Billboard charts at the No. 1 spot with over a million sold in less than five days.
