Yankees To Acquire Giancarlo Stanton In Trade With Marlins

The Yankees have had a week that went from slightly disappointing to incredibly fortunate. After two-way Japanese phenom  Shohei Ohtani, one of the most widely wooed prospects in baseball history, shunned MLB’s most prestigious franchise to sign with the Angles, Jon Heyman reported via MLb Network,  that the Yankees have agreed to a deal in principle to acquire 59-home run hitting stud Giancarlo Stanton from the Marlins in what can be considered one of the blockbuster acquisitions in Yankees history.

Stanton led the NL in dingers and dominated the 2016 Home Run Derby. The “mound round of pound” will join a lineup with another 50-homer beast in Aaron Judge who won Rookie of the Year honors for slamming a record 52 bombs and stealing the show at the 2017 MLB Home Run Derby in Stantons old backyard of Miami. Together, these Black Knights will put on an aerial show as they compete to see who can hit the ball harder and longer. The Yankees now floss the two best sluggers in the game.

A source told The Post that Starlin Castro and prospects, though not top ones, make up most of the return. Acquiring Stanton was all about the money. Once the Cardinals and Giants fell out of the race for the Black Knight, the Yankees had a clearer rode to Stanton. He is owed $295 million over the next 10 years and Derek Jeter and Bruce Sherman bought a Miami franchise $400 million in debt, so selling off their most valuable and respected investment was inevitable. The Marlins have new ownership and management and Stantons albatross contract didnt fit into Derek Jeters plans going forward. The Marlins also traded what some would consider their second-best player in speedster Dee Gordon, who was traded to the Mariners this week.

In addition to Stanton, the Yankees have also locked up the guy responsible for building this rising Yankees squad. Personnel Czar Brian Cashman and the Yankees are reportedly close to finalizing a five-year, $25 million extension for him to remain as the clubs general manager. Cashman has served as the General Manager and Senior Vice President of the Yankees since 1998 and during his reign as GM, the Yankees have won six American League pennants and four World Series championships. The Stanton signing goes a long way towards inching the Yankees towards their first championship since 2009.

The Derek Jeter Era is officially underway in Miami and the Yankees now boast not only the best two African-American power hitters in baseball, but a lineup that can rival the deep Yankees lineups of the Dynasty 90s.

Neither team has announced a deal as of early Saturday morning. Once Stanton, who has a history of injury problems throughout his career is given a clean bill of health, the deal will be made official.
