Will Smith, Martin Lawrence Will Reunite For “Bad Boys For Life”

Seems like fans are finally getting their wishes when it comes to long-awaited projects in Black film.

Last week we learned that Ice Cube and Mike Epps were back on the set for the fourth film in the Friday series. Now fans have more to cheer about as another Black dynamic duo will be returning to the silver screen for another installment of the box office smash “Bad Boys” series.

According to Shadow and Act, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence will be reprising their roles as Detectives Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett, respectively, and, per The Hashtag Show, it looks like some drama has occurred and the longtime partners and friends have split up.

The film will see Lawrences character Marcus Burnett working as a private eye after a falling out with Smiths Mike Lowery, who is going through a midlife crisis as a bachelor who finally wants to mature, all while dealing with a new a young and cocky partner who is loyal to Lowery but that loyalty is not reciprocated, and finds bond with Burnett when he returns to the fray. Lowery and Burnett are brought together again when a lean, mean, skilled,  Albanian mercenary with a vendetta puts a death order on Lowery and Burnett for the death of his brother. Now the two must work together once again to bring him down.

The original film was released on April 7th, 1995. “Bad Boys II” was released on July 18th, 2003 and fans have been clamoring for a third film ever since. Well they’ll have to wait at least two more years as the film has been given a release date of January 17th, 2020, twenty five years after the original hit the big screen, a box office smash and a history-making film which, we noted in the story above, featured “the first time that two black police officers were placed together as partners AND as headliners.” To make the news even better comes the fact that Jerry Bruckheimer is back on board, so expect big explosions, high-speed car chases, lots of color and tons of destruction.

In the meantime, Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba will be starring in a TV spinoff of the film called “L.A.’s Finest” in which Union reprises her role as DEA agent Syd Burnett, who was also Marcus’ sister and Mike’s love interest.

Despite a two year wait, the deal remains the same. “We ride together, we die together. Bad Boys for life!”
