The Shadow League’s Mayweather vs. McGregor Round Table

The sports world is ablaze this weekend about the historic matchup between Floyd “Money” Mayweather and “The Notorious” Conor McGregor. Team TSL lays out their opinions on the “Money” fight:

J.R. Gamble, Senior Writer and Deputy Editor – “I’m picking Mayweather on a McGregor disqualification. He’s going to get desperate and do the most entertaining thing and probably abandon the rules and just go wild. Maybe he drop kicks Floyd or wrestles him to the ground and makes him tap out . Something very strange is going to happen that is either going to leave the crowd very upset or set up a rematch that will break records.”

Yussuf Khan, General Manager & Senior Vice President – “Mayweather vs McGregor is one of the most amazing sporting events weve seen in sports history. The ability to bring two different professional sports, and their top stars, together for a ground breaking and money making spectacle such as this fight is incredible. No matter the hype and ignorance surrounding the fight, just bringing it all together must be respected and appreciated.

In terms of the fight itself, I firmly believe that no pro-MMA fighter can beat a pro boxer in boxing. The sports have basic similarities in regards to the art of striking, but overall they are very different and should be appreciated for the skills required and their differences instead of always being compared. With this being said, I believe that McGregor will begin to tire by round 8 and Floyd will win by unanimous decision.”

Rhett Butler, Combat Sports and Culture Writer/Producer/Host – “I’ve been in the bowels of both mixed martial arts and boxing for years as a part of the promotional engine behind the scenes and in press row. As a former resident of Las Vegas, I had the pleasure of watching private Mayweather sparring sessions in the Mayweather Boxing Club aka “The Doghouse”. Floyd is an amazing athlete, second to none. His endurance, grace under pressure, finesse, ring intelligence, and extreme awareness makes him a chess master as great as Bobby Fischer in his game.

I think McGregor has pure passion and believes he is the best fighter in the world regardless of the fighting surface or rules applied. However, boxing is a specialized sport that takes years to master. Mayweather has been perfecting his craft for a very long time and comes from a lineage of boxing champions. To me it is simple, McGregor will become very rich while entering boxing 0-1 and is the luckiest fighter on the planet. He convinced the world he has a shot at beating the best boxer and best boxer-businessman as a debutant and will become an even larger star in defeat. Floyd Mayweather takes this fight by unanimous decision in 12 rounds.”
