Stick Talk: Stanton’s Powerglide Thrived On MLB’s Opening Day

Giancarlo Stanton came to the Yankees to mash out in pinstripes.

Stanton came to the Bronx to elevate his game, from being an awesome slugger on a miserable team to the elite clean up hitter on the most famous sports franchise in the world.

First plate appearance First homer as a Yankee Giancarlo Stanton’s off to a flying start! https://t.co/RtienODfaK

We didnt know how long Stanton’s transition to the Big Apple would take. Playing under the pressure of being a high salary guy for a franchise where winning is the only option has crushed some past superstars. With an entire Spring Training to peep his steez up close, its clear that when Stanton said the Yankees were a perfect fit, he meant it.

The big-bopper didnt waste any time letting everybody know that he was the new little boy bomber in town smashing two homers in the Yankees 6-1 win over Toronto on Opening day of the 2018 baseball season. Aaron Judge had a solid day going 2-for-4 with a couple of hits and will still get his share of attention, but it’s clear that Stanton has already stolen some of the spotlight.

He did it again. Giancarlo Stanton, his 2nd HR on Opening Day for the Yankees. 3-for-5, 2 HR, 3 R, 4 RBI. Not bad. #PinstripePride https://t.co/NIyoN4kKjp

Stanton had Yankees fans salivating and New York radio was Ric Flair dripping with excitement as Stanton also doubled to knock in a run. When this Yankees lineup is hot, everybody gets torched.

The Black Knights the 2nd player in Yankees history behind Roger Maris with a multi-homer debut. In typical Stanton fashion, the flight of the ball was also a sight to behold and displayed the unprecedented power that he wields.

Maybe the craziest part about Giancarlo Stanton’s 117.3 mph home run is that he hit it to the *opposite field.* It is the hardest opposite-field homer since #Statcast started tracking. #Yankees
