The Steelers’ Le’Veon Bell has proven his worth as, arguably, the best running back in the League. Now he’s proving it off the field.
Bell has donated $750,000 to his high school, Groveport Madison High School in Ohio, for a new turf field for the Cruisers, which will be renamed “Le’Veon Bell Field.”
We are so excited and appreciative of LeVeon Bells generosity in providing our school with a turf athletic field, said GMHS Athletics Director, Steve Petros. LeVeons gift not only benefits our athletics programs, it also benefits our marching band and other youth-oriented programs throughout the District. The new field allows us to host regional and state competitions and events, whereby our booster organizations and local businesses will enjoy a positive financial impact as well.
But Bell didn’t stop there. He helped create “Bell’s Boys Initiatives” with the Groveport schools. This ongoing initiative is dedicated to developing activities which focus on building sportsmanship and leadership within children.
This is an incredible gift to the Groveport Madison Schools community, said Superintendent Bruce Hoover. LeVeon and his mother, Lisa, give credit to many people at GMHS, most particularly to coach Bryan Schoonover, for helping LeVeon during his high school years. This gift speaks to the power of strong, trusting relationships between our students and staff. It also demonstrates the power and connection between our schools and our alumni and what it means to be a Cruiser.
Before becoming a star at Michigan State and a two-time Pro Bowler for the Steelers, “Juice” starred for the team on the Cruiser Stadium field.
