We all know about the wild claims LaVar Ball has made, the wildest of which has to be that he could beat Michael Jordan 1-on-1.
“I would just back [Jordan] in and lift him off the ground and call a foul every time he fouls me when I do a jump hook to the right or the left,” Ball told USA Today back in March. “He cannot stop me one-on-one. He better make every shot ’cause he can’t go around me. He’s not fast enough. And he can only make so many shots outside before I make every bucket under the rim.”
While others have responded to his outlandish claims, including Charles Barkley and Shaq, Michael Jordan remained silent on the issue, until a young student at the Michael Jordan Flight School in Santa Barbara, California brought the situation up.
At first Jordan was complementary towards the Balls, describing LaVar as a man who is proud of his children, “as any father would be proud of his kids.” He also gave Lonzo props as a someone who has the potential to be a good player. But you could tell it wasn’t going to stay that way for very long, as he immediately followed up with “I would say, if I had to sit down and talk to him right now, if you guys weren’t here, I’d tell him to shut up and let the kid play.” Of course the gym erupted in applause, which brought out the competitive fire in Jordan and the response everyone was really waiting for.
“2.2 points a game. Really? It doesn’t dignify an answer but I’m going to give it to you because you asked the question,” Jordan told the questioning student. “I don’t think he could beat me if I was one-legged.” Mic drop! Watch it for yourself below.
