Baseball is a sport that is passed down from father to son. Its a culture that is driven by family and the love of the game, surviving generations.
This years MLB draft shows the continuation of baseball’s bloodlines.
The Padres selected Ryan Weathers, the son of former Major League pitcher David Weathers, with the seventh overall selection.
Opening night selections also included Noah Naylor (29th overall, CLE), the brother of Padres Minor League first baseman Josh Naylor; Parker Meadows (44th overall, DET), the brother of Pirates outfielder Austin Meadows and Griffin Conine (52nd overall, TOR), the son of former All-Star Jeff Conine;
Continuing the excellence of African-American prospects in baseball is Osiris Johnson (53rd overall, MIA), the cousin of former All-Star and future Hall of Famer Black Knight shortstop Jimmy Rollins. The 5-foot-9 Rollins is the last great African-American shortstop who, along with slugger Ryan Howard, led the Phillies to the 2008 World Series.
