The Philadelphia 76ers named Elton Brand as the new general manager on Tuesday following the Bryan Colangelo scandal.
Brand, a former Sixers player who retired from the NBA in October 2016, spent the past two years in the organization before being elevated to the front office. He recently was promoted to executive vice president of basketball operations after serving the previous year as the GM for the Sixers’ G League affiliate, Delaware Blue Coats.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the 39-year-old made a strong impression on ownership and Coach Brett Brown in the interview process, beating out several more experienced candidates inside and outside the Sixers organization.

Brand replaces Brett Brown, who served as the interim GM since Colangelo resigned in June after his wife admitted to using burner Twitter accounts to criticize players and praise her husband.
Additional people that were considered for the vacant GM spot were Utah Jazz assistant GM Justin Zanik, Houston Rockets vice president Gersson Rosas and assistant Golden State Warriors GM Larry Harris.
