Recently, Dana White revealed that he believe’s former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is a disappointment to him and not on his radar anymore. The statements come as no surprise as White is well-known for being either a fervent supporter or detractor of his fighters.
MMAUno discussed White’s response on the TSN MMA Show when he was asked about Jones’ inability to fully capitalize on his athletic brilliance due to his myriad legal issues.
“Ever. Ever. In all of sports,” he said of Jones. “The guy is so talented and gifted, God knows what he would be doing now if he had never gotten in trouble. He could possibly be the heavyweight champion and have the defense record that couldn’t be broken. The list goes on and on of what could’ve been with Jon Jones.”
Jones’ issues with law enforcement and drug testing is now legendary with his latest third-round TKO win over Daniel Cormier was changed to a No Contest after Jones tested positive for the banned substance Turbinol. The result returned the belt to Cormier and left a huge stain on an already tainted career.

A lot of people were waiting for this fight!!! And now, finally, Jones is back to prove everyone that he is a really invincible champion!!! UFC 214: Jon Jones vs Daniel Cormier 2 (29.07.2017) full Match
White furthered his comments by confirming his disinterest in Jon Jones’ athletic career, which is in limbo with the Nevada Athletic Commission. If found guilty, Jones could be suspended up to four years which would be the equivalent of a career funeral.
“Whatever happens, happens,” White said. “Believe me, I’m not mentally or emotionally invested in that anymore.”
White is notorious for switching up his athletic focus based on whoever is winning and selling the most buys on pay-per-view. He was so enamored with the possibility of Ronda Rousey on the elevated UFC platform that he reversed his stance on women’s MMA and literally brought in whole divisions based on her buzz and saleability.
Once she was no longer the queen of the hill, he switched up to Conor McGregor, who has made him the most money so far and allowed him to enter the world of boxing.
Dana White Discusses Jon Jones Downfall: Doesn’t Think He Can Handle Money, Pressure & Fame
Dana White discusses Jon Jones’ recent failed drug test following UFC 214 and recaps his Jones’ earlier career when he was 24 years old and making millions of dollars. White also speaks on the current downfall of Jon Jones and implies that his recent drug test is confirmation that he (Jones) cannot handle the pressure, money and fame that comes along with being a UFC champion.
With his new penchant to wear shirts that read Zuffa Boxing and his close friendship to the former UFC owners Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta, White is definitely on to the next episode and Jones apparently has not made the cut.
Hopefully, he saved his money because like the mythical Game of Thrones TV series, its going to be a long winter indeed.
