‘Wear Some Drawers’: South Carolina Coach Dawn Staley ‘Traumatized’ After Seeing Exposed Woman, Llamas At Airport

Whether it be flight delays or potential long security lines, you never can be 100 percent certain about what to expect when you are at an airport.

South Carolina Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley got that reminder after she took a flight into Portland on Thursday.

Staley, who is entering her 19th season leading the South Carolina woman’s basketball program, shared a traumatizing airport experience on her X account.

Staley’s airport roller coaster started when a woman, who apparently was not wearing any underwear, accidentally fell down in front of her and unintentionally exposed herself to the coach.

The South Carolina coach’s story then ended with her seeing llamas in the airport; Staley’s recounting of the incident can be seen below.

“DISCLAIMER BE PREPARED,” Staley wrote in a tweet. “This is when you know it’s time to shut travel down. Flight to Portland was great slept, ate and did my cryptograms.

“As I’m on my way to my ride … A passenger from the flight walking ahead somehow tripped, fell forward and so did her dress. She almost did a complete 360.

“It’s horrible to fall but to fall with absolutely NO UNDERGARMENTS on is a different story.”

Staley then added some more descriptive details to her interesting traveling experience.

“This happened 2 steps in front of me,” Staley continued in another tweet. “My reflexes didn’t allow me to blink or look away. I saw 100% beaver. And (I) forever (will) not be the same. I’m sure the she isn’t either.

“The story continues. After being traumatized, I see some live llamas in the airport who my friend mistakes for horses. She’s like girl you see them horses?

“I said girl those are llamas but did you see the beaver. Moral of the story wear some drawers with dresses or just wear pants while traveling,” Staley concluded.

Staley, a 2013 inductee into the Basketball Hall of Fame, is the winner of three national championships during her tenure at South Carolina.

However, the Gamecocks and Staley are trying to return to the mountaintop in 2026 after back-to-back seasons losing in the championship game; UConn defeated South Carolina in the 2025 title game, while UCLA defeated the Gamecocks to finish last season.

South Carolina opens the 2026-27 campaign on Nov. 8 in a matchup against the North Carolina Tar Heels.
