Asked on FS1 if Colin Kaepernick is good enough to play in the NFL, Roger Goodell said, “I’m not a football expert.
Then I realized it involved NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who says he still believes Colin Kaepernick will play in the league again, but he doesnt know when or where. He’s not sweating it and believes that each of the 32 teams personnel people can make the right choice without his interference.
FS1 hosts, especially TSL’s Rob Parker, have been very critical of Goodell’s tenure.

Goodell said on FS1 that he thinks Kaepernicks current unemployment is based on him not being good fit for teams. Goodell would have us believe the protests don’t figure into Kaep’s predicament.
I want to see everyone get an opportunity, including Colin, but those decisions are made by football people, Goodell said. When teams have a need and teams feel like they can get better by a particular individual, whether they know the system, or whether they have more talent, or whatever it may be, thats what they do. And Im still convinced that hell get that opportunity when the right opportunity comes along. Thats what our leagues all about.
Asked his personal opinion on if he thinks Kaepernick’s play the past few seasons has warranted the QB a job, Goodell said thats not for him to say.
Im not a football expert, Goodell said. Im a huge fan. I have a role as commissioner also, but for me I watch the games and enjoy and I let the football people make those decisions. And the reality is theres 32 different decisions, and multiple decisions within an organization, so theres always a dispute. The idea of who can play, who cant play, whos best for our system and not best for our system, are decisions that should be made by those 32 teams.
Goodell is always going to stand by the owners who pay him his $40 million per year salary, but using self-deprecation as a tactic is tactless for a guy who also wants to throw down the gauntlet, make examples of his superstars and prove to the world that he is the ultimate power when it comes to making the most crucial decisions for the NFL.
Goodell isn’t hurting for a meal, but hes under a tremendous microscope right now and everything he says and does will be analyzed with more skepticism, particularly in light of this shaky Ezekiel Elliott situation.
If you’re looking for Goodell to go to bat for Kaepernick, well thats not happening, He is not taking responsibility for Kaepernick’s unemployment. Hes reserving that blame for the owners. No Goodell isn’t a football expert, but that shows the fundamental dysfunction in the relationship between the commissioner and the players. If Goodell is just a fan, then how can he make prudent and advised decisions that are in the best interest of his NFL football players?
Thats a contradiction that cant be fixed by the NFL Commissioner telling people hes no football expert. Even if its true, its just not something a CEO even tells the public. Power is designed to help you hide your lies. Goodell can’t even use his juice right.
