David Emanuel Peralta Takes Split Decision over Robert Guerrero
Argentinian David Emanuel Peralta, played ghostbuster to Robert The Ghost Guerrero, outworking the former champion and taking a split decision victory this weekend.
Peralta (26-2-1) returned to the ring after a 15-month layoff, showing no signs of rust at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Two judges scored the bout 116-112 and 115-113 for Peralta, while a third had it 115-113 for Guerrero.
Guerrero (33-5-1) takes his second loss in a row, with his last fight being a unanimous decision loss to champion Danny Garcia in January.
Demian Maia Submits Carlos Condit via Rear Naked Choke in the First Round
Demian wasted no time in proving why he is still relevant in the UFCs strong welterweight division, taking less than a round to secure the W.
Maia (24-6) scored with his first takedown in less than a minute at the Rogers Centre in Vancouver, Brtish Columbia. Condit (30-10) held him in half guard while Maia mixed in punches while creating space and moving to mount.
Condit responded to Maia passing his guard by giving up his back. Once he committed to that decision, the fight began its decline and the Brazilian jiu-jitsu submission ace secured a body triangle, squeezing until Condit was forced to tap out at the 1:52 mark of Round 1.
Benson Henderson Gets Consolation Win via Patricky Pitbull Injury
Patricky Pitbull Freire (25-4) took on an apprehensive Benson Henderson in Anaheim, California on Friday.
Freire utilized his kicks early on Hendersons legs and body while circling and delivering pot shots from distance.
Henderson (24-6) never displayed his trademark intensity, keeping a relatively slow pace through the early stages of Round 2, allowing Freire to continue choosing when and how the two men would engage.
Henderson and Freire tied up and exchanged kicks before Freire walked away and signaled an injury. The fight was stopped 2:26 into Round 2.
The former UFC standout rarely engaged with any effective offense, instead fighting passively as Freire refused to be lured into being counterstruck or taken down.
In truth, Freires leg injury, calling off the fight himself, saved Henderson and sets him up for a lightweight title shot against Michael Chandler at Bellator 163 in San Jose in November.
