Universal Pictures is wasting no time getting Ride Along 2 to the drawing board. This comes hot on the heels of the still simmering success of Ride Along, directed by Tim Story and starring Ice Cube and Kevin Hart. Ride Along was released over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend and raked in a record-breaking $41.5 million and has gone over $120 million worldwide. A huge deal, it’s no surprise that Universal is moving along to part 2.
Will Packer’s Rainforest Films and Ice Cube’s Cube Vision will produce Ride Alone 2. The movie will be based on a script by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi. And there are plans to begin shooting in June or July.
This adds more fire to Kevin Hart like a Dallas BBQ pit. He’s also set to star alongside actor and funnyman Will Ferrell in the Warner Bros. film Get Hard, as a streetwise mentor to an investment banker (Ferrell) who is trying to harden up before he starts serving a sentence in a maximum security prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Hart and Will Packer are also pairing up for The Wedding Ringer, which is already slated to drop over MLK holiday weekend next year.
