Rich Cho Joins Memphis Grizzlies Front Office

In July of 2010, Cho made history by becoming the first Asian American GM in NBA history.

The Memphis Grizzlies have hired Rich Cho as their new vice president of basketball strategy.

Cho served as the former general manager of the Charlotte Hornets from 2011 to 2018 and the Portland Trail Blazers in 2010-2011. He was an assistant general manager with the Seattle SuperSonics and continued in that role when the franchise became the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In July of 2010, Cho made history by becoming the first Asian American GM in NBA history.

He was also an honoree at the 4th annual Shadow League Awards, held in New York City.

His path to an NBA front office was not an easy or traditional one.

Immigrating with his family to the U.S. in 1968, they struggled through tough times. But he was determined and focused, and his commitment to hard work and education paved his path towards success.

He graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, got his law degree from Pepperdine University and went to work for the Seattle Supersonics. After moving with the team to Oklahoma City, he was named GM of the Portland Trailblazers and a year later was hired as the GM of the Charlotte Hornets.
