Report: LeBron James Will Give Up No. 23 To Anthony Davis

King James is all about winning and is doing whatever it takes to do so.

When LeBron James announced he was headed to LA, Lakers Nation went crazy for his jersey and declared they were winning the championship. But then injuries, drama and lofty expectations derailed the season.

Then the trade for Anthony Davis happened and all of sudden the Lakers were back in the spotlight.

Today the Lakers made brought the Wizards into the AD trade and cleared up some cap room to make a run at another big name free agent.

The Lakers are trading Mo Wagner, Isaac Bonga and Jemerrio Jones to Wizards as part of the Anthony Davis deal with New Orleans, league sources tell @ZachLowe_NBA and me. Deal clears contracts and creates more cap space for free agency.

As part of these moves, word has come down that LeBron is willing to give AD the no.23, a number “the Brow” has worn over his seven-year NBA career with the Pelicans.

According to Yahoo’s Chris Haynes, “Lakers superstar LeBron James is gifting Anthony Davis his No. 23 league sources told Yahoo Sports” wrote Haynes. “The league has been notified of the pending jersey change, sources said.”

Although the AD trade to LA isn’t expected be finalized until July 6th, LeBron is doing everything he can to make Davis’ transition a smooth one, including the always superstitious jersey number. But it’s nothing too crazy for LeBron as he wore no. 6 with the Miami Heat, so switching isn’t too much of an issue.

James will have to choose a number that isn’t no. 8, 13, 22, 24, 25, 32, 33, 34, 42, 44 or 52 as those are retired by the Lakers.
