The police unions of the United States have been some of the most consistently anti-black institutions since their inception. It is almost expected that whenever there is an issue of contention between the greater black population of a municipality and the police that the union will be right there fanning the flames of distrust to burn ever higher and higher, still.
As far as many are concerned, it is the police unions that separate the proverbial blue from the literal black.
Recently, Michael Bennett revealed an incident with the Las Vegas Police Department that occurred the night of the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor in which he said he feared for his life.
Michael Bennett Police Takedown Video, ‘I Wasn’t Doing Nothing Man’ | TMZ Sports

Immediately following his revelation on social media, he received both support and skepticism.
It wasnt until the video came to light days did the silly, racist veil of doubt evaporate, mostly. Bennett has been an adamant voice of reason in the NFL of the subject of Colin Kaepernicks protest, while maintaining a protest of his own.
Police brutality and oppression have long been a cause of constant fear and hate for Black people in the United States. In recent history, police brutality has been the single most prevalent spark for riots in black communities and urban centers. Prior to that, white aggression was the leading cause.
NFL protests have been the jet fuel that has accelerated the news cycle for the greater part of the summer. It is more than a small curiosity that anyone would doubt a man who has been a leading figure and spokesperson in the league on social activism when he says a police officer threatened to kill him. A lie would be a radioactive bullet to the legitimacy of social activist athletes.
The video shows the truth in Bennetts words, serving as a document that shows us what many of us already know regarding the dirty games police play.

With this letter from the Las Vegas Police Union we see a snap shot of the tactics that black people have to deal with when trying to hold the police accountable to the community, and for their own actions as well.
Now, the doubt that once hung over Bennetts noble words has now been replaced with hate. The letter calls for an investigation into Michael Bennett, a private citizen who has not been accused of any crimes.
It is a clear example of how police unions act as mob families in a sense. Bennetts profile has been raised exponentially due to his play on the football field, his intelligent grasp of todays political realities, as well as his protests as of late.
“While the NFL may condone Bennett’s disrespect for our American flag, and everything it symbolizes, we hope the league will not ignore Bennett’s false accusations against our police officers,” wrote union president Steve Grammas.
What does Bennett’s actions during the playing of the national anthem have anything to do with him having a gun pointed to his head by the Las Vegas Police Department? That statement tells you all you need to know about Steve Grammas, and many in the law enforcement community that think similarly, who basically said that the uppity negro got what he deserved.
