Truthfully, I can't believe that Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry weren't already working together. Today, it was announced that Perry and Oprah linked a deal, bringing Perry-created original programming to Winfrey's OWN Network. Of course they did. One day, when Perry decides to run for political office, we'll look back at this as one of those pivotal moments. I'm sorry what's that? You'd never vote for Tyler Perry? He's just an entertainer and he knows nothing about government policy? Plus, you think he's an embarrasment?
First of all, him being an entertainer is beside the point. Remember that we've had entertainers in office before (Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sonny Bono and Jesse Ventura!) and fame absolutely matters in politics, as folks are apt to vote for people they recognize, consider attractive or feel comfortable around. Additionally, Perry's demographic falls right in line with one of the most reliable voting blocs there is—black, elderly, church-going Democrats. It's almost too easy. The Oprah Winfrey co-sign helps with the other demos (white women, etc.) that could swing an election if it's close. Do you doubt Oprah? (no you don't, stop lying.)
As far as being embarrassed because Perry makes silly, corny, non-intellectual movies? So what, just ignore him. If you're one of those individuals that believes that there are people/events that "make all black people look bad," then I have something to tell you: get over it, because if there's anyone who's embarrasing me, it's you.
