The Raiders, in Raiders fashion, have signed troubled linebacker Aldon Smith to a one-year deal Friday, giving him a sort of last chance to clean up his act.
After being released by the 49ers the day after a third DUI and arrest, surprisingly enough at least three other teams displayed interest in signing Smith even with the frequent legal issues that started in 2012.
Smith served a nine-game NFL suspension last year and is subject to league discipline from this newest incident (as well as possible jail time) for the DUI as well as hit-and-run charges, so its no guarantee hell even suit up to play at all this season even though he will be eligible to play this Sunday, pending a physical.
Smith has 44 career sacks in just 18 games over the last two seasons. He was second in the league with a total of 19.5 sacks in 2012.
