New York City emerged as the top US fighting game region following Red Bull Conquest in Washington, DC this weekend.
Teammates Eli “LostSoul” Rabadad, Anthony “Mr.Whooppee” Castro, and Victor “Punk” Woodley took home the first place prize of $4,500 (split amongst them). In addition to the cash prize, they also earned a spot at EVO Japan 2019.
The NYC squad claimed Red Bull‘s coveted gaming title after beating out several top regions with their collective 52 points. Gamers from all of the country competed in titles such as Street Fighter® V: Arcade Edition, TEKKEN 7 and Guilty Gear Xrd REV2. The competition was fairly close on the leaderboard, with New York City, San Francisco (51), Los Angeles (37) and Atlanta (34) constantly sparring their way to the top.
But, the major K.O. came when Punk’s Street Fighter victory pushed New York City ahead to win.
“I’m very excited because I see all the emotion…the win is for home, not for me. I’m very happy for my teammates,” Punk said.
