When it rains, it pours. Here’s your first look at The Umbrella Academy. Coming to Netflix February 15. A dysfunctional family of superheroes comes together to solve the mystery of their father’s death, the threat of the apocalypse and more. Adapted from the comic created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá.

The series will follow members of a group of super-powered individuals as they search for answers in their father’s death, but their personalities and abilities clash. Like many other offerings of the sort, this one takes place in an alternate universe, one in which JFK was not assassinated.

Mary J. Blige will play series regular Cha-Cha, described as a time-traveling assassin who operates with ruthless efficiency in eliminating targets.

However the Umbrella Academy, with its uniquely gifted individuals, has rules, rules with Cha-Cha views with disdain. Her reputation as a sadistic sociopath who revels in torturous methods to get at what she wants, describing herself as a “pain artist”.

The series will be produced by Universal Cable Productions while Steve Blackman (Altered Carbon) will serve as showrunner with a script currently being adapted by Jeremy Slater.

This will be Blige’s latest movie with the streaming company and first since being nominated for an Oscar in Mudbound
