Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank took out a full-page ad in today’s Baltimore Sun to address his comments from last week when he called Donald Trump a real asset for American businesses.
The brands star endorses, including Steph Curry, Misty Copeland and Dwayne The Rock Johnson, all gave a collective “Hell to the Naw!” publicly came out to question Planks pro-Trump stance. But Plank insists that he isn’t pro-Trump
Addressed to the city of Baltimore, Plank ad is an open letter that attempts to clarify what he meant, saying that his comments, did not accurately reflect my intent.
Trump’s name is nowhere to be found as he talks about the company’s core values. He also talks about how his inclusive company has worked toward to betterment of Baltimore.
We stand firmly for equal rights. Through our investment, hiring and in everything we do, we expect to be leaders in the advancement of all forms of diversity and gender, he wrote.
We are publicly opposing the travel ban, he goes on to say, and that the company plans to join a coalition of companies in opposition to any new actions that negatively impact our team, their families and our community.
He also touched on Under Armour’s positive impact in Baltimore, by doubling down on our companys presence and our investment in this city, and by making unprecedented commitments to education, workforce, development and local hiring.
