There were big time winners at the 2013 Soul Train Awards that aired last night. Originally taped on Nov. 9 and filmed in Las Vegas, funnyman Anthony Anderson was Master of Ceremonies for the evening. Reality show star turned songstress Tamar Braxton took home the Best R&B/Soul Female artist and Song of the Year awards for her smash hit Love and War. She received the Ashford and Simpson Songwriter's award as well. Album of the year went to Kendrick Lamar for Good Kid, M.A.A.D City.
The ladies continued getting props for most of the evening as Janelle Monae won the Video of the Year award for "Q.U.E.E.N." featuring Erykah Badu. Surprising to some was the fact that K. Michelle received an award for Best New Artist. Not surprising was Robin Thicke being awarded Song of the Year for "Blurred Lines." Other awards went to rapper Wale who won Best Hip Hop Song of the Year for "Bad."
Among the evening's other honorees were Keith Sweat (Lifetime Achievement Award), and Dionne Warwick was given the Legend Award as well. Ron Isley, Ruben Studdard, Chrisette Michelle and Gladys Knight sang "That's What Friends Are For" in tribute Warwick. As is normally the case, the night was filled with performances from many of the hottest names in music as rapper T.I., Eric Benet, Smokey Robinson, Kenny Lattimore, Big Daddy Kane, Jennifer Hudson and many others graced the center stage.
