Jon Jones’ comeback has apparently hit the brakes, or at least stopped revving back up for the time being.
Earlier today we reported that the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion had been cited for drag racing in New Mexico. But now sources are reporting that Jones has been arrested and booked in Albuquerque for violating the terms of his probation.
Although he is currently serving an 18-month suspended probation sentence, Jones, 28, was processed into the San Bernalillo Detention Center at approximately 10 a.m. local time.
According to an Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson, Jones “was cited for drag racing on the evening of March 24. Additionally, Jones was cited for equipment modifications, a license plate issue, failure to maintain a driving lane and exhibition driving.”
The former champ has vehemently denied he was drag racing, saying that he revved his engine to acknowledge some fans in the car next to him.
“UFC is aware that Jon Jones turned himself into the Albuquerque Police Department this morning for a potential probation violation stemming from a traffic stop last week,” the organization said in a statement issued Tuesday. “UFC has been in touch with Jones’ legal team and will have no further comment until the organization has had appropriate time to gather necessary information.”
No news yet as to whether his April 23rd re-match with current champion, Daniel Cormier, is in jeopardy because of this arrest.
