This situation brings the tree falling in the woods scenario to mind: If you change your name and don't tell anyone, did you change your name?
According to Billboard editor Joe Levy, Jay Z dropped the hyphen from his name, which he thought was Breaking news, as did pretty much everyone.

Not so, according to Complex. They reported that Hov hasn't used the hypen for years. An email from Roc Nation's publicist simply read:
Dude..We haven't used the hyphen since 2010..
