Jamarcus Russell Will Audition For The Chicago Bears

Jamarcus Russell is back and he's llooking svelte at his rookie playing weight and for the first time he seems more concerned with his upside rather than his waistline. However, he has a few more layers to shed. On Saturday, he took an important step on the comeback trail for a player who is attempting to shed his rep as a league-wide laughing stock.

New Bears head coach, Marc Trestman is one of the most acclaimed quarterback coaches in North America. He's been credited with transforming Rich Gannon into an NFL MVP and he become the most renowned  quarterback coach for young signal callers in the offseason. If he's looking for a project with upside, Russell is that guy.

Cutler's backups Josh McCown and Matt Blanchard have no upside and when factoring in the Bears offensive line woes, QB 2 needs to be a position of strength for Chicago. Russell may be one of the few quarterbacks in the National Football League who can match or exceed Cutler's arm strength and he fits Russell's desire to learn behind a veteran leader. Nothing may come of it, but if he has to start somewhere, Chicago is a great launching point for his career resurrection.
