After two months with the Erie Bayhawks, Chris Smith's D-League adventure has come to an ignominious end. On Tuesday, the Bayhawks cut the brother of J.R. Smith. According to ESPNNewYork.com's sources, Chris was involved with several run-ins with the coaching staff which probably wouldn't have been a deathnail in his career if he was making an entry-level salary with the Knicks D-League affiliate. Up until late December, Smith, who was averaging eight points per game with the Bayhawks, was the definition of nepotism as he was holding down an undeserved roster spot with the Knicks because of his brother J.R.
Unfortunately, for Mike Woodson, he doesn't that option with J.R.'s guaranteed contract. .
Somewhere, Brandon Jennings just raised his chalice in celebration.
