High School Basketball Power Programs Evolve With The Times, Form Independent League

Led by prep powerhouse Montverde Academy (FL) and Oak Hill Academy (VA) a brand new 8 team league of top independent teams have come together to form The National Interscholastic Basketball League.

Other teams to join the league are Bishop Walsh (MD), Hamilton Heights (TN), La Lumiere (IN), Legacy Early College, Sunrise Christian (KS) and Wasatch Academy (UT).

The league organizer is the head coach at La Lumiere Pat Holmes.

Games will take place in a variety of places from national events including the National Hoopfest (VA), Flyin’ To The Hoop (OH), Hoophall Classic (MA), Hoophall West (AZ) and the Metro Classic (NJ).

Teams will play a schedule of 12-14 games from January to early February in a series across the nation.

“We are excited to play high-level games against the best high school teams in the country in this season of uncertainty,” legendary Oak Hill coach Steve Smith said.

Montverde, who some call the greatest array of HS talent ever assembled, is ranked No. 1 in several preseason polls, including the Ball is Life poll, with Sunrise Christian at No. 3, La Lumiere at 8, Wasatch at 11 and Oak Hill at 12.
