Sometimes, it is a wonder that demagogues and hate-mongers have advanced so far in the modern world, a world that we “say” rewards those who spread positive karma and visits misfortune upon those would promote dissension among us. But when it comes to former New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani it seems that the universe has afforded a wretched individual with a great deal of latitude to spread hate instead of love.
The last time he stabbed Black people in the eye with a burning hot needle of disrespect was when he dared say he, lording over a pseudo fascist police state from 1994 to 2001, had done more to protect the lives of Black people than Dr. Michael Eric Dyson yet won’t even entertain the untold numbers of potentially innocent Black and Hispanic men who still rot in the belly of the beast due to his race and class based policing practices-practices that he would readily pat himself on the back for. Things like Stop and Frisk, the Hip-Hop Police and other anti-minority policing initiative that started under his watch.
To be certain, Giuliani is tantamount to a living caricature. The former mayor is the stereotypical avatar of a rich NYC Republican whose cash and standing has insulated him from the reality of the average New Yorker. In that insulation, he continually mis-gauges public sentiment and societal realities.
Now he ascends his tower of condemnation once again to throw stones at President Barack Obama.
I do not believe, and I know this is a horrible thing to say, but I do not believe that the president loves America, Giuliani said during a dinner in Manhattan attended by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, a potential Republican presidential candidate, and several dozen conservative media and business executives, Politico reported.
He doesnt love you. And he doesnt love me. He wasnt brought up the way you were brought up and I was brought up through love of this country,” Giuliani added.
According to Rudy, if you weren’t born rich, White and Republican, then you don’t love your country. Hyperbole at best, stupidity at the worst.
Though the POTUS has been criticized by the politically inconsequential Giuliani almost from the very beginning, the GOP’s favorite contradictory speaker has been kicking up a notch in these final years of the Obama administration.
When a former presidential candidate from the opposite political party begins throwing stones, it’s a pretty safe bet that whoever he’s throwing stones at is doing a pretty good job. With gas prices at their lowest mark in over a decade, unemployment at record lows, and an economy that is finally awakening from a long slumber, the Giuliani’s of the world are looking for something, anything, to complain about.
So we’ll break down each of rude Rudy’s claims and see if there’s any truth to them whatsoever.
What country has left so many young men and women dead abroad to save other countries without taking land?,” Giuliani said. But what Giuliani seems to forget is that each of the foreign wars that Obama presided over (Afghanistan and Iraq) were initiated by Obama’s predecessor. In addition, President Obama has actually been bringing the troops home, removing them from harm’s way.
However, even Rudy realizes that it’s simply not good tact to call a sitting president out for being unpatriotic and immediately began spin doctoring the whole situation.
“Well actually, if I could express it more clearly, what I mean is he doesnt express it,” Giuliani said during an interview on Bloomberg Politics’ “With All Due Respect.” “I shouldnt say that the president does or does not love anything. I dont know, Im not a psychiatrist, and he doesnt have one and he doesnt need one.”
Perhaps part of that backtracking has something to do with the manner in which the term “racist” seems to follow the former NYC mayor around like a bloodhound. However, the 2008 presidential candidate continually clues us in on just how cultural inept he is regarding the reality of life in modern America.
“Some people thought it was racist — I thought that was a joke, since he was brought up by a white mother, a white grandfather, went to white schools, and most of this he learned from white people,” Giuliani said in an interview with The New York Times on Thursday.
In that case, and according to you, wasn’t he brought up the way you were brought up Giuliani?
Racism is fueled by ignorance, fear and hate. While we cant say for certain that Rudolph Giuliani is being hateful, fearful, or whether these are misguided attempts at a GOP strategy to undermine the president, we can say he is ignorant for believing that people who were raised by white parents, in a white school district cant experience racism. In a career full of stupid quotes, that has to be in the top 10 dumbest things he has ever said. Sheesh, its actually painful to believe that this man was elected to be mayor of the greatest city in the world….TWICE.
That says a lot of things about how Americans view class and race, and all of those things are bad.
