Eric Mangini spent the last two years as an ESPN analyst and is now ready to get back on the sideline.
The Mangenius will join the 49ers coaching staff as a senior offensive consultant. Though better known for his defensive chops, coming up under Bill Belichick as his secondary coach and defensive coordinator, the former defensive tackle has some new theories on how to attack defenses. Hopefully, they're better than his defensive theories, which didn't lead to much success once he left New England.
San Fran may also be looking to protect themselves should one of their defensive coaches leave the team for another opportunity. The team has denied the Saints and Buccaneers permission to speak with secondary coach Ed Donatell in each of the past two seasons.
