After a flurry of offseason personnel losses, the Baltimore Ravens finally benefitted from another team’s stroke of bad luck by signing former Broncos linebacker Elvis Dumervil. According to ESPN.com's Adam Schefter, Dumervil’s deal is worth approximately $35 million over five years, including $8.5 million in Year 1. Ravens defensive end Arthur Jones was more than giddy about the acquisition of Dumervil.
“That’s awesome. It’s like a dream team in the making,” Jones told the Baltimore Sun’s Aaron Wilson. “I can’t wait until we all get together.”
Dumervil has been solid playing in the 4-3 over the last few seasons in Denver, but as he exhibited by his 17-sack season in 2009, rushing the edge in a 3-4 defense is where he thrives. In Baltimore, he’ll get a chance to play in his ideal scheme.
While his coverage skills are virtually non-existent, and he gets swallowed up by linemen playing the run, the threat of Dumervil and Terrell Suggs getting after it on the same pass rush should have opposing quarterbacks repeatedly bracing for impact on Sundays.
