DJ Rhetorik Wins The 2015 McDonald’s Flavor Battle DJ Competition

McDonalds held their sixth annual Flavor Battle DJ Competition finale Sunday night at Orbitz nightclub in New York City, with DJ Rhetorik earning the honor of mix king over the likes of DJ Soundwave from Los Angeles and DJ Loni Love of Chicago.

Gods Favorite DJ Clark Kent led a judging panel of legends which consisted of Dj Skribble, DJ Jazzy Joyce, DJ Shiftee and 2014 Flavor Battle Champ Dj R-Tistic. Each judge constructively critiqued the contestants based on their mixing style, creativity and technique.

None were more creative than the Chesapeake, VA native DJ Rhetorik, who stole the show early and took home the $10,000 cash prize.

To be the man, you have to beat the man, and Im the man. DJ Rhetorik ended his first set with this famous Rick Flair quote and immediately set the tone for the night. However, it was toward the end of his third set which included Drakes Back to Back and vine hit Why you always lying that generated the crowds biggest reaction of the night and won over the judges.

The craziest thing about winning McDonalds Flavor Battle in NYC is that I slept in a McDonalds in NYC when I didnt have an apartment years ago, said Rhetorik, who plans to make a transition deeper into the entertainment industry after touring with rapper Logic.

McDonalds partnered with Complex Media to launch the Flavor Battle DJ Competition in 2009 as an extension of their 365 Black initiative after recognizing the cultural impact and passionate following of the art form. The event has been increasing in popularity each year. McDonalds 365Black platform was created to celebrate the pride, heritage and achievements of African-Americans year round.
