Billie Woodruff will be directing VH1’s Drumline 2: A New Beat, a spinoff of the 2002 blockbuster hit Drumline. Woodruff is known for his directing work on Honey and Beauty Shop. His latest film Addicted is set for an October release.
The original Drumline starred Nick Cannon and Zoe Saldana, and the storyline followed the journey of a Harlem street drummer (Cannon) recruited by a Southern University band director.
The TV reboot storyline will focus on a female lead described as a stubborn yet talented teen that rebels against her parents’ wishes by enrolling at a different college so she can play in the Rolling Red Thunder Drumline.
Marking his return from the original, Cannon will serve as executive producer. A release date has not yet been announced.
