The WGN dramatic series “Underground” has been bubbling beneath the surface of public notice for at least a year. The first time I heard of this ground-breaking dramatic series was at the 2015 New York Comic Con. Initially taken aback by the idea of a television series set in the antebellum south during slavery, I was pleasantly surprised by the writers, director and cast members as they expertly brought this project to life.
The series was created by writers Misha Green and Joe Pokaski and takes place on a Georgia cotton plantation. It follows the plight of a group of industrious slaves dubbed the Macon 7 who decide they must attempt the arduos 600-mike trek to freedom or die trying.
“Underground” drops on March 9th on WGN.
Last month I was invited to the Winter Television Critics Association event in sunny Pasadena, California to get an up close and personal look at this action-packed project, as well as to talk face-to-face with its stars and creative minds.
