The Pittsburgh Steelers, already reeling from a ugly loss to the Tennessee Titans, just got their bubble extra-busted with news that star center Maurkice Pouncey tore his ACL in the game.
His was injured when fellow lineman David DeCastro inadvertently fell into his leg, causing Pouncey to crumble. For Pittsburgh, this is terrible news. This team has had offensive line protection problems for years, even when they’ve been good, but had so much talent they were able to compensate. This season however, the Steelers are trending down talent-wise and an injury to their best line player (Pouncey was named one of the team captains, signaling his importance) might cause the bottom to fall out. This could be a 6-10 season for the Steelers, not exactly up to their usual standard.
Pouncey will undergo surgery, but the Steelers did not say whether he would miss the remainder of the season.
Pouncey suffered the injury on the Steelers' first possession of the game after David DeCastro rolled onto his lower right leg on a running play. Pouncey stayed down on the ground as a hush fell over the crowd at Heinz Field.
