Chuck Pagano Is Worried About Andrew Luck’s Reliance On Running

Andrew Luck was fairly healthy last season. However, Colts head coach Chuck Pagano sounded a lot like Mike Shanahan discussing his concern with Luck placing a bulk of the offensive burden on his shoulders and relying on his athletic gifts too often. While the Colts search for an effective workhorse tailback in the backfield, Luck's been using his feet to keep the offense moving.

"He's running way too much," Pagano said after the Colts' 27-6 victory. "I know that. He's running way too much. We've got to do a better job of keeping him clean."

Keeping its franchise quarterback upright was a key goal heading into the offseason, but those efforts might have been hindered when left tackle Anthony Castonzo left Saturday's game with a right knee sprain.

Not only does Luck try to extend plays behind the line of scrimmage, but the Colts quarterback also admitted to struggling with sliding before contact arrives when he scrambles.

"I don't know, I haven't figured out how to slide," Luck said. "I'm just going to go down and however way I go down and avoid a hit is the way it'll be."
