It appears that things have finally settled down in the Twin Cities between superstar running back Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings announced earlier this afternoon that they have restructured the final three years of Peterson’s contract in an attempt to reportedly give him additional security.
The official terms of No.28s deal hasnt been released but ESPN reports are saying that Peterson now has about $20 million in guaranteed money ($13 million for this season and $7 million in 2016) and a $5 million in roster bonus due in March of 2016 as well. This is a generous move on the Vikings’ part and an attempt to extend the olive branch, taking his former deal into consideration. His previous contract ran through 2017 and was scheduled to pay him $12.75 million in 2015 with no guaranteed money in the final three years of the contract.
This deal couldnt have come at a better time as tension between the two sides has been brewing since 2014 amidst Peterson’s indictment on child injury charges and him feeling as if the Vikings front office didnt fully support him during the process.
“I appreciate the Vikings for working together on this restructured contract, which provides additional security for me but also allows opportunities for me to further prove my value to the team and within the NFL,” Peterson stated in a released statement. “It was important for me to continue my career in Minnesota, and I cannot wait to get on the field in front of Vikings’ fans again.”
