Sad news from the NBA this morning as we learned of the death of Steve “Snapper” Jones, who passed away late last night after a long battle with an illness. He was 75 years old.
Jones was a star in the ABA. In his eight seasons in the League, he played for seven teams and average 16 points and was named an All-Star three times. He made the move to the NBA and played for the Portland Trailblazers in the 1975-76 season, playing in 64 games and averaging 6.5 points.
Most NBA fans of the 80s and 90s recognize Jones for his broadcasting career, calling games with Bill Walton on the NBA on NBC for thirteen years. But he started his broadcast career with CBS, and also worked as a color commentator for the Trailblazers.
