Former Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall has agreed to a two-year, $12 million contract with the New York Giants, who have started this free agency as aggressively as they did last year when they signed key additions such as Janoris Jenkins and Olivier Vernon on the first day.
The move benefits Marshall, who gets to stay in New York and he joins a potentially deadly trio of receivers along with Odell Beckham and Sterling Shepard. Marshall can add that veteran presence to the young receiving core and he also gets to ball with the best QB hes ever had in two-time Super Bowl champ Eli Manning.
The 11-year veteran is third on the active list in career receiving yards with 12,061 and receiving TDs with 82. Hes fourth in receptions with 941 and will attempt to get 1,000 receiving yards with a record fifth NFL team in 2017. He’s still a great big target as a slot receiver and has the second most receiving TDs (48) since 2012 — second to Dez Bryant’s 52.
Marshalls Super Bowl window is also closing, so he sees the Giants as legitimate title contenders and a squad that wont waste the couple of years he still has in the tank.
“It’s super simple. They are a championship organization and that’s what it was all about for me,” Marshall said on ESPN’s Mike and Mike hosted by Mike Greenberg and Ryan Clark on Thursday. “Quarterback play with champion Eli Manning and a No. 1 receiver on other side was important. With Odell, I can be his wing man and take pressure off a dominant No. 1. We also have Sterling Shepard who can be a star in this league and coach (Steve) Spags… because we know a huge part of winning in the NFL is having a defense that can fly around and get things done…It was a no-brainer.”
