After months of speculation and playing up to the cameras, grandstanding and empty threats, the highly-anticipated fight between boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. and UFC titan Conor McGregor is apparently not going to happen.
As recently as Tuesday morning fans were still optimistic that some kind of mega-money, combat extravaganza could be worked out between the two celebrities, who have been jabbering back and forth for the past year.
By Tuesday evening it was a pipe dream, as Floyd flat out rejected a report by The Irish Sun, which stated that he and McGregor had agreed to terms on a fight.
There seems to be several rumors floating around media recently, however, let the record show, there hasnt been any deals made in regards to a fight between myself and any other fighters, Mayweather posted on Twitter Tuesday.
I am happily retired and enjoying life at this time. If any changes are to come, be sure that I will be the first to let the world know.
UFC President Dana White also denied the report.
This doesnt mean the fight is dead. It just means that Floyd wants to be the one to announce it and an Irish newspaper wont be stealing his glory or thunder. Its always about strategy with Floyd and when it comes to negotiating any type of fight with any fighter in the world, Money May wants to hold the cards, has the undefeated cache and controls the negotiations and the festive delivery of the monumental event. McGregor believes that Floyd needs him to make $100 million in this fight and insists that he is control.
