Faculty and students of Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy remained calm during Michael Hill's attempted assault on the school due to extensive intruder drills, now necessary in the United States, but no one could possibly have trained Antoinette Tuff to handle the extreme circumstances she faced in the front office. Tuff ended up in the same room as Hill, armed with an AK-47 and several other weapons, who was off his medication and looking to take innocent lives. She was able to speak to the gunman, relate to him and talk him down, preventing any damage or deaths in the process.
