The expansive manhunt for rogue ex-cop Christopher Dorner seems to be over. Tuesday night, deputies said that charred remains were found inside a burned down cabin outside of Big Bear Lake, California.
The cabin became engulfed in flames during a shootout between Dorner and the police. Though the police never entered the building, they believe Dorner was inside and never exited.
Cindy Bachman, spokesperson for the San Bernardino Police Department, also said the investigators are taking precautions to ensure the building is safe before entry, but believe they have the right man.
"We believe that he was still inside the cabin [as it burned down], yes," Bachman said.
"Right, we believe, correct, we believe, we believe that the person that barricaded himself inside the cabin engaged in gunfire with our deputies and other law enforcement officers, is still inside there, even though the building burned, yes," she said.
During the fiasco, we were made privy to a manifesto by the ex-cop and it’s gotten him several sympathizers. I can understand where they’re coming from. I’ve been a victim of police harassment, as have my friends and loved ones. I even have a relative who was severely injured at the hands of a bad cop.
However, no matter what, I’ll never consider Dorner a hero. His targeting of the family of former LAPD Captain Randal Quan was not bravery, it was cowardice. He took out a young couple, Monica Quan and Keith Lawrence, for his wretched revenge. These weren’t trained military operatives, they were civilians. Losing your job doesn’t give you the right to take innocent lives.
If Dorner really wanted to affect change, he could’ve given his story to the LA Times and went about it in a civilized manner. He actually had a message, but will now be written off as another angry (black) man. It’s a shame that all of these lives were lost due to his callousness, but I’m even more sad that people actually support it.
