Over the weekend Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry got to show off his skills on the golf course. Curry was one of the many stars to participate in the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline, Nevada, a charity event to benefit the Stowers Institute of Medical Research.
Curry, fresh off winning his fourth NBA championship in eight seasons, has been basking in the glory of that great accomplishment while also showing his “petty king” side. He and the great Charles Barkley were at it all week, ribbing each other, but at the end of the day it’s all love.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been on Curry’s radar for a while now, and the three-point king raved about the former NFL MVP’s playing style and intangibles during a golf event presser.
“The blend of what you can’t teach and intangibles. He’s got such a great feel, great awareness, the flare for the dramatic,” Curry raved. “He likes to take chances. I love that style. Same kind of way that I play.”
Curry continued to draw comparisons between himself and Mahomes.
“There’s a lot of respect and admiration for what he can do on the field and I’m sure it goes the same way for what I can do on the court, too,” said the 2022 NBA Finals MVP.
Curry is speaking of the breathtaking array of deep and complex throws Mahomes is known for. Similarly to how Curry unfathomably pulls up from beyond 30-feet and drains threes. The two are a lot alike in how they play their respective sports, and for the fans it’s a welcome sight.
Curry Has Long Had Admiration For Mahomes
During a February 2021 appearance on the “Huddle and Flow” podcast, Curry said Mahomes was his favorite NBA player.
“See a lot of myself in him, and obviously there’s been a lot of comparisons. Just that creativity — you can’t blink or you’ll miss something special. I just love his confidence. He knows at any point he can do something special. He’s always got options, he’s got a way to make a play using his feet or his arm, sidearm pass — whatever it is. He’s surrounded by some weapons and knows how to use them.”
“That guy, he’s special. He’s a generational talent, obviously. So I love watching him.”
It’s no doubt that these two legends are two of the must-see athletes in the world of sports.
Curry has won two NBA MVPs, four NBA titles and one NBA Finals MVP. Mahomes isn’t too shabby himself, with one NFL MVP, one Super Bowl win and one Super Bowl MVP to his credit. Both are at the top of the pecking order in their respective disciplines, and from the looks of things that isn’t going to change anytime soon.
Both Are Avid Golfers
Golf is the preferred sport of choice for many athletes when they’re not playing their own. Curry has become pretty good at it and even finished tied for 16th in the tournament. Mahomes finished 51st, but he had a tough opening round and still remained optimistic.
“Worst round of golf I played in a long time! But great way to end it! See y’all tomorrow!”

Something tells me this isn’t the last time we see these two on a golf course competing and showing each other love.
