AOC nominates Bernie Sanders for the President of The United States after saying she would vote for Joe Biden in April.
Back in the spring, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told Shane Smith for VICE TV’s Shelter in Place in an interview that she would vote for the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. However, she will do so with clenched teeth.
Back then she said, “If the question is, can Biden win? I think Biden has the potential to win a general election.”
She continued, “Whether he can offer deeper structural changes that get us to a healthier place, I don’t necessarily know if he’s going to move us forward. But I think people can see him as stopping the bleeding.”
“I personally draw a distinction between endorsement, endorsing a candidate, and voting for them.” The millennial lawmaker further noted. “I have not yet endorsed Vice President Biden, but I will be voting for him in November.”
But on Tuesday, during the Democratic National Convention, she sent a message to her party that she will be a thorn in his side if he does not yield to some of her (and so many left-leaning Dems and Bernie supporters) demands.
In a 60 second speech, she symbolically nominated the senior Senator from Vermont, Bernie Sanders. AOC unpacked those issues that are important to her and giving “fidelity and gratitude to the mass people’s movement working to establish 21st century social, economic, and human rights, including guaranteed health care, higher education, living wages, and labor rights for all people in the United States.”
While the night did lift many of her concerns as part of the Biden-Harris platform, she did not let up on who her heart supports.
“In a time when millions of people in the United States are looking for deep systemic solutions to our crises of mass evictions, unemployment, and lack of health care, and espíritu del pueblo and out of a love for all people, I hereby second the nomination of Senator Bernard Sanders of Vermont for president of the United States of America.”
This of course confused people, but she set the record straight on Twitter — hopefully pushing her folk to fall in line.

And as expected, the GOP hopped on what could have been seen as dissension in the party. Gov. Bobby Jindal from Louisiana texted the sly quipped, “Dems only giving @AOC 60 seconds to speak tonight. GOP should give her more time at their convention to show voters how crazy Dem ideas are.”
